What Prestorming means here

Prestorming is Shankar IAS’s name for the final-phase Prelims tests, the ones meant for the weeks right before the exam. The group on this page is small but heavy. It holds Prestorming Test 1 from the 2022 series and all ten Prestorming tests from the 2026 series. As with other Shankar material, each test splits into a slim paper of 21 to 24 pages and a very large explanation file, which for 2026 runs anywhere from 103 to 155 pages.

  • 2022 Prestorming Test 1: paper of 21 pages and solutions of 120 pages.
  • 2026 Prestorming Tests 1 to 10: papers of about 22 to 24 pages with solution files of 103 to 155 pages.
  • 2026 Test 1 also carries a third file of 3 pages, probably an instruction or key sheet, and the 2026 Test 6 listing has only the long file of 135 pages.

A schedule sheet attached to the 2022 test is a timetable, so it has been left out.

Using Prestorming tests in the last weeks

These tests are built to be difficult on purpose. Scores are often lower than in earlier mocks, and that is the intended effect: they expose gaps while there is still time to patch them. Do not judge your preparation by a single bad score. Instead, run through the solutions, mark every fact you did not know, and fold those facts into a one-page list for each week.

A practical split of time: one evening for the sitting, one for first review, one for a second review the following weekend. Because the explanation files are so dense, read them with a pen and underline only what you can imagine turning up in a different form.

Link to the syllabus

The questions follow the same blueprint as the real General Studies Paper I: Indian history and culture, geography, polity, economy, environment and ecology, science and technology, and current developments. Statement-based questions dominate, so the tests also train careful reading. The 2026 batch will help most to anyone preparing for the cycle it was written for; the 2022 test is mainly useful for the static syllabus.

Printed form

Many aspirants like to attempt a Prestorming test on printed pages and keep the solutions bound separately. Competer carries printed prelims test series material, linked from this page.
