A short Sindhi set

The Sindhi optional can be written in Devanagari script, and this resource gathers the papers that were published for it. The series contains six papers: Paper I of 2014, Paper I and Paper II of 2013, and three Sindhi papers of 2017, one combined paper plus Paper I and Paper II. The 2014 Paper II is not in this list.

The three PDFs

Three archived scans come with the page. The first is the 2014 Paper I, a very light file. The second is a 2017 Sindhi paper at about seven tenths of a megabyte, and the third is the 2017 Paper I at close to eight tenths. Page counts were not recorded. All three are the official question sheets without answers or notes.

Using so few papers wisely

With only a handful of papers available, the aim is not to find statistical patterns but to understand the format thoroughly. Take each paper and write a short map of its structure: the number of questions, the marks given to each, the proportion on literary history versus set books, and whether passages are given for critical comment.

  • Study 2013 and 2014 together, since they show the earlier layout.
  • Study the three 2017 papers as one unit, as they show how the sections were later arranged.
  • Note which writers, eras and genres are named more than once.

Preparation tips for a literature candidate

Write complete answers rather than outlines, because the examiner values argument and evidence from the text. Ask a Sindhi teacher to read your answers and comment on style and accuracy. Revisit the same paper a month later to see how much you have improved.

Who should read this

Candidates who have chosen Sindhi, language lecturers and students who want to check the level of a lesser studied optional can all use this set.

Since script and spelling conventions vary between sources, follow the conventions used in the question papers themselves when you write practice answers.

Printed support

Competer lists printed UPSC previous year question books, useful for the general papers you will write alongside your optional.
